A very brief introduction to the Great Langdale races.
Rod Berry started them in 1988 when he first started work at the Langdale Leisure Hotel as a kitchen porter. The Windermere Marathon was no longer running and there was no marathon in Cumbria. Rod’s first venture was the Christmas Pudding Run for which there was 38 runners. It was won by Mark Croasedale who recently returned to win the veterans over 40 prize.
Over the years the races have developed and we now attract such legends as Dr Ron Hill MBE, The GB International, Dr Rebecca Robinson, Steve Littler, Paul Muller and many more, together with dedicated runners who, though will never win a race, are more than happy to run in this most scenic valley in England.
It is now organised and managed by The Great Langdale Road Races Team consisting of employees from Langdale Leisure LTD with support from NT Sticklebarn.
